He is a native of Oak Ridge Tennessee, and graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 1980. While at Art Center, Holz assisted for Helmut Newton, who urged him to move to Milan to pursue his vision.

In Milan, Holz developed his own unique style. Photo Italiana called him “a new up-and-comer with a unique independent style.” In Europe, Holz’s work appeared in Italian Vogue, Lei, Linea Italiana, Madame Figaro and French Elle. After critical acclaim in Europe, he returned to Los Angeles for a short period where he photographed album covers, including a young Madonna for the iconic “Borderline” album. He moved to New York City in the mid 1980’s and opened a studio in the Village.

In New York, his fashion and beauty work appeared in Harper’s Bazaar, Interview Magazine, and the New York Times Magazine. Holz photographed many advertising campaigns for diverse clients including Max Factor, DeBeers Diamonds, and Elizabeth Arden. His “Gold” campaign for the International Gold Corp won him a Clio Award. A unique use of light, shadow, motion, and composition continue to be his trademarks.

Holz took advantage of the sets, models, and locations that editorial and advertising work afforded him to pursue his personal work. He photographed a large series of nudes in his studio, juxtaposing them with animal bones and unusual industrial objects. Later, he turned his camera to photograph his subjects on locations throughout the world: forests, jungles, deserts, rivers, and vast landscapes.

This volume celebrates the work of illustrious portrait and fashion photographer Mario Testino. Uniting dynamic fairy tales and baroque photocomposition, the resulting images sizzle with sex appeal. Blessed with a rare talent for capturing the moment, Testino breaks down all barriers. As you peruse these memorable works you bear witness to the development of a complex artist. His striking photographs mesmerize with artfully staged, yet authentic sensuality. What he once found beautiful, now he finds merely tangential.

This volume showcases Testino’s best fashion work featuring many of his images from Vogue, the definitive word on style.

The biggest, most lavish book production of the 20th century is back!

SUMO was a titanic book in every respect: a 480-page tribute to the 20th century’s most influential, intriguing and controversial photographer, breaking records for weight and dimensions. Fifty people worked with Helmut and June Newton for three years to complete a book that weighed 30kg (66lbs). But size wasn’t everything. Control and quality – printing, paper, binding – were all critical in making SUMO a worldwide publishing sensation, which is in many famous collections all around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Now, 10 years after the original publication, SUMO is back in a more economical edition, but one with the same DNA as its unique progenitor.

The original SUMO, edited by June Newton, featured over 350 pictures, most published for the first time, covering every aspect of Newton’s outstanding career: from the stunning fashion images that influenced generations of younger photographers, to his powerful, erotic nudes and celebrity portraits. Also included is a booklet with a ‘making of’ section, detailing the meticulous selection process, and the trial and error, experiment and innovation that went into creating the original SUMO, the book that redefined the photographic monograph
